On behalf of my colleagues, I am delighted to welcome you to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. We are actively engaged in an exciting and forward looking programme of teaching and research. I hope that the information on these pages reflects this vision and will motivate you to learn more about us with a view to participating in our programmes - whether as a student, a member of staff, or industry collaborator or sponsor. If you have an opportunity to visit us in person, you are assured of a warm welcome.

The Department was started in 1987 with Dr. N. Chalamaiah who was the first head. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is a center for top-quality education and research in Computer Science and Engineering.

Currently, as one of the largest Undergraduate Programs in the JNTU College of Engineering, Kakinada, the enrollment in the Department includes 40 Undergraduate students in Computer Science and 40 in Computer Applications. We also have around 120 Post-Graduate students in Computer Science.

The number of faculty members in the Department has been steadily increasing. They are not only providing high quality undergraduate and graduate education to the students, but also are immersed in cutting-edge research which covers almost all disciplinary areas of Computer Science and Engineering. They include: Software Engineering, Computer Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, Programming Languages, Databases, Internet Technologies, Data Mining, Computer Networks, High Performance Computing, Computer Architecture, Parallel and Distributed Systems, Theory and Algorithms, System Software and several other areas.

But that is just the tip of the iceberg; the Department has been the launching pad for a large number of other computing enterprises which is the center for the study of computing. My view of them is in other computing organizations.

The Department has large and active Research Programs in all areas of Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Our Research Programs are well-funded and growing and we are recruiting new faculty. These are exciting times in the Computer Science and Engineering Department.
